How to:

Our first DXC whitepaper

It's here: Design Executive Council's first publicly-available research report

Entitled, "Strategic Behaviors and Mindsets of Design Executives", this report has been a labor of love a few years in the making.

Since DXC started just a couple short years ago, we've grown at an incredible pace. Today, our membership includes over 35 Fortune 1000 design executives, including leaders from places like Target, JPMorgan Chase, SAP, Google, Capital One, CNN, TD Bank, and so many more.

This report represents one public manifestation of that commitment to advancing not only our member's effectiveness, but the design leadership community at large through meticulously curated research.

Watercolor bleeds throughout the report reinforce its core message: good design leadership is fluidly adaptable to the situation at hand

There's a reason business schools are so fond of the case method: when it comes to business—and, we believe that good design is certainly good business—it's all about judgement and leading through uncertainty. World-class ability in that isn't something that can be learned like you would knowledge or facts. It's something you have to develop an intuition for to know when to remix or break the rules.

That's why this report was so important to produce. Core to the DXC mission is not only to provide a great space for design leaders to grow together; it's to document and catalogue their insights to produce something greater than the sum of its parts: a roadmap for future leaders to develop that hard-to-quantify judgement at a far faster speed than ever before.

The report focuses on the human stories behind the design of the world's most iconic companies, offering readers a case-method style approach to learning design executive leadership

This report contains insights that you can't find anywhere else because the intimacy of the DXC membership community has never been created before.

Today (as of summer '24), among Fortune 1000 companies, just 5.3% have a chief design executive. As modest as that number may sound, it's actually a huge improvement: that number represents a nearly 40% increase since just a couple of years ago. At DXC, we're proud to lead this movement to recognize design as a company-wide, executive-level function that's critical to center in order to achieve success in any industry.

This report was produced in collaboration with Figma and we were honored to speak at Config 2024, Figma's annual conference for designers, in the Leadership Collective track:

We hope you'll find this report valuable!
